No matter the season, having a composite deck in your yard can provide endless opportunities to entertain with ease.
This project fixed the homeowner's troublesome small but sloped backyard, which had an old, small wooden deck that did not meet their functionality needs. This new Trex deck doubled the size of the their deck space and has provided them a long-lasting, weather-resistant, beautiful outdoor living space.
Native Design & Hardscape's Senior Designer, Jeran Guffey, created a design that included terraced sections of decking. The first reason for the terraced decking was to create distinct outdoor spaces, or "rooms." This helps establish a sense of a bigger space even though the true size of the yard had not been altered.
The second reason for terracing the deck was to provide the homeowner with privacy. The lower deck allows the homeowner and their guests to be below the view of the neighbor's behind the fence.
A subtle but important design element of this Trex deck design was installing a drink rail (also called a cocktail railing) on top of the black aluminum balusters. This provides a wider-than-typical perimeter railing, allowing guests to easily store their beverages while mingling on the deck. Cheers!
